Lockpick Pornography is a work springing from Joey Comeau’s radical genderqueer novella of the same name. It’s a darkly humorous exploration of queer political vigilantism and the sociopolitical Gordian knot of what it means to be a part of the modern queer community.

In Lockpick Pornography, the narrator and his friends decide to take action against a violent right-wing agenda by creating gay-centric children’s books and leaving them in homes across the country. But they go too far when they kidnap the son of a “family values” politician and flee into the suburban jungle, hunting for mischief. In Melbourne, 2018, artists Emma Palackic and Christopher Bryant, in the wake of a postal survey on their basic human rights, discover Comeau’s book...

Lockpick Pornography explores the ramifications of violence and trauma within the queer experience, and the binaries we place on ourselves and on others. Emma and Christopher use Comeau’s text to examine their own queer experience and the increasingly conservative Australian political climate.

“Lockpick Pornography is a force to be reckoned with; a powerfully driven anti-narrative story punched with gender-queer adventures. Bryant delivers an exposé on the suburban mayhem malaise within the constraints of a right- wing political climate.” - Flora Georgiou
